Bill Calvert's career began over 40 years ago training young horses for the hunter/jumper show ring on the west coast. When Bill moved east, he added training 2 year old TB's to his resume. A career move brought Bill and his growing family to Charlotte, NC to manage Brigadoon Farm where he trained hunters & jumpers and taught riding lessons. He was also founding Professional Huntsman for The Flat Branch Foxhounds. When Brigadoon was sold to developers, he and his wife Lisa built their own barn, Calvert Training Stables, in Lancaster, SC. Three years ago, they made the decision to close the barn. Currently Bill continues to teach, train, judge & steward as he travels to various locations across the Carolinas.
Lisa Calvert began riding at Rock Creek Park Horse Center in Washington, D.C. when she was 5 yrs old. At age 12, her family moved to Potomac, MD where she joined the Potomac Pony Club, rode with the Potomac Hunt and won an ASPCA Maclay class on her large pony "Barrymore" without a trainer. After high school she worked full-time for Janet Hitchen as professional groom & braider at Upperville, Warrenton, Washington International and more. When it was time for college, she chose USF and upon graduation opened her own barn in Dunedin, FL. Soon after closing her barn, a childhood friend set her up on a blind date to meet Bill. 35 yrs later they have 2 grown children and continue to be in the horse business together.
